NFL Week 1 Preview: Is this the year the Colts break the Opening Day Curse?
Being a Colts fan means getting excited for the season to start, only to remember they haven’t won a Week 1 game since 2013. It is definitely an emotional rollercoaster. Luckily for this season opener game versus the Miami Dolphins, the Colts are slightly favored to win! Fingers crossed they can break the curse and bless us with a win.
Logistically, this should be a very close game that could honestly go either way. Factoring in a home-field advantage for the Colts, along with them being favored by 1.5 points, a Colts win is not an unrealistic outcome.
Keys to the Game
Colts must stay confident to break their losing streak.
A week 1 win for the first time since 2013? What a relief that would be! The boost of confidence that would give the fans and the players would be the perfect way to start the 2025 season. If Daniel Jones can make smart decisions and stay collected under pressure, while also continuing to make progress the way he was in the offseason, he could bring the team to a winning start to the season ahead.
Xavien Howard vs. Tyreek Hill
The Dolphins may have Tyreek Hill as their best receiver, but we have a new cornerback, Xavien Howard. If Howard finds a way to slow down Hill, Miami will have no choice but to readjust and give the Colts more room to operate.
Dolphins Defense vs Colts Defense
Another key to victory is to focus on taking down the Dolphins’ defense. Knocking the defense off balance by quick passes, solid route running, and smart exploitation of mismatches will slow the Dolphins’ defense down and give the Colts opportunities to score.
Prediction
Saying this as a Colts fan, I am quite hopeful that this will be the year they bring home a Week 1 win. The Colts have a sharp offense, some strong defense players, and a home-field advantage on top of that. I see the game being close, but with the Colts coming out on top. After some thinking, I predict the game will end with the Colts coming out on top. Every finger and toe will be crossed.
