Eagles Clinch Back-to-Back NFC East Titles with Gritty Win Over Commanders
The Philadelphia Eagles became the first NFC East team in 21 years to win back-to-back division titles Saturday night.
The birds pulled out another gritty win against their longtime rivals in the Washington Commanders. Like a lot of their games this season, it wasn’t pretty.
Despite penalties, three missed field goals by Jake Elliott, an opening kickoff fumble by Will Shipley, and suspect play calling by Kevin Patullo (to no surprise), Philly got it done.
Saquon Barkley had one of his best games in the 2025 season, posting 132 yards and a touchdown. Backup running back Tank Bigsby also poured in a touchdown, which ultimately was the dagger.
Jalen Hurts threw two touchdowns in the victory and completed 22 of 30 passes. Hurts has 24 passing touchdowns on the year, which is a career high. Not bad for someone who’s been disrespected all season.
AJ Brown posted 95 yards on nine catches in the contest. Devonta Smith & Dallas Goedert also scored touchdowns for the Eagles, showing the offense’s balanced distribution.
If this offense can get going, a Super Bowl repeat is still very much possible. The potential for the offense is limitless; Kevin Patullo just has to find a rhythm.
The defense showed up per usual, as Cooper DeJean had a major interception on Josh Johnson late in the third quarter.
37-year-old Brandon Graham showed up once again, with his third sack in the last two games. Having an extra edge rusher alongside the young wrecking crew Philly has on defense is a huge plus.
Although the defense didn’t have much of a tall task this week, playing a division rival is always a challenge. Philly has shown dominance on the defensive side of the ball all year long.
The Eagles sit at 10-5 and face the tough Buffalo Bills next week. That game will be an ultimate test of what this team is truly made of.
