2025 NFL Opening Night: Philadelphia Eagles Take Down Dallas In Chippy Season Opener

What a time to be alive, as the NFL is finally back. All eyes were set on opening night, when the Dallas Cowboys visited Lincoln Financial Field to face off against the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Philadelphia Eagles.

As predicted by most football fans, the Eagles stuck it out and took the win 24-20. Regardless of the Micah Parsons trade, many fans expected a high-scoring game in which two MVP-caliber quarterbacks, Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts, battled it out for division supremacy.

Eagles’ DT Jaylen Carter was ejected from the game before any snap. While both teams were in huddles, Carter and Prescott had an intense back-and-forth, which led Carter to spit on his opponent. The crowd's energy fell flat during the ejection as one of their best defenders had to leave the game.

Both teams came out firing with five rushing touchdowns in the first half. Although Jalen Hurts is a Super Bowl MVP, he entered the game on a mission. He had two rushing TDs heading into halftime. Countless doubters of Hurts do not look at him as a premier, superstar-level QB in the league; however, his performance in this game will set the tone for the Eagles’ season. Finishing the game with only 152 passing yards may seem like average numbers, but the impact that Hurts had on the game kept the Eagles leading the way throughout the second half.

Dak Prescott played with a lot of precision and showed that he is an elite quarterback in the league, with 188 passing yards himself, and showed up when it mattered for this Cowboys team.

The game took a lightning turn around at the 4:44 mark in the third quarter when there was a drastic weather delay. The delay allowed both teams to rest while the rain cleared up in Philadelphia. This delay did not help Dallas; they went scoreless in the second half.

Philadelphia secured more rushing yards, rushing carries, and passing completion percentages than Dallas here. The dynamic duo of Hurts and Barkley was on full display in this game, which slightly edged the Cowboys.

The Eagles will fly into Arrowhead on September 14, 2025, to face the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl 59 rematch at 4:25pm EST. The Dallas Cowboys will welcome another divisional rival to AT&T Stadium on September 14, 2025, as the new-look New York Giants come to town to avenge their Week 12 loss to Dallas last season. That game will start at 1:00pm EST
