Detroit Lions Rookies Turn Heads with Early Season Numbers
The Detroit Lions did not just draft for depth this year—they drafted for impact, and now, only two weeks into 2025, that impact is shaking the league. Instead of easing into the NFL, these Lions rookies are already looking like seasoned pros, stacking highlight moments and advanced metrics that leave analysts scrambling for comparisons. They’ve brought a physical edge to an already tough roster, and they’re proving that grit travels just as well as talent.
Isaac TeSlaa- The Highlight Producer
Third-round receiver Isaac TeSlaa has undoubtedly made the most of his limited opportunities. Through two games, he owns two receptions on two targets for 42 yards (21.0 yards per catch) and one touchdown with a 100% catch rate. In Week two, he hauled in a 29-yard sideline grab late in the second quarter to set up a touchdown, proving he can stretch the field when called upon.
Tate Ratledge- The Right Guard Rebound
Rookie guard Tate Ratledge helped stabilize a line that surrendered zero sacks and only four total pressures against Chicago. His improved protection paved the way for a rushing attack that averaged 5.9 yards per carry and kept quarterback Jared Goff clean for five touchdown passes.
That performance marked a sharp turnaround from Week 1, when the Lions allowed 16 pressures and four sacks.
Christian Mahogany- The Clean Sheet Protector
Fellow rookie guard Christian Mahogany matched Ratledge’s effort. After giving up four pressures and two sacks in Green Bay, he allowed no pressures in Week 2 and earned the top pass-blocking grade for the Lions in Week 2, from PFF.
Tyleik Williams- The Interior Disruptor-
First-round defensive tackle Tyleik Williams batted down two passes and clogged running lanes that limited Chicago to 3.6 yards per carry. His interior push freed Aidan Hutchinson for one-on-one matchups and helped hold the Bears to 21 points despite multiple short fields.
Can the Rookies Keep the Roar Going?
Detroit drafted these players for the future, but the future is already here. With TeSlaa stretching the field, Ratledge and Mahogany locking down the pocket, and Williams collapsing the interior, the numbers and the wins speak for themselves.
