Trevon Diggs Is Back from Surgery—and That Changes Everything

The Cowboys just got a big boost. Trevon Diggs is back on the field after season-ending knee surgery in December 2024. It was a cartilage procedure on the same knee where he tore his ACL the year before, so seeing him back this quickly is a huge win for Dallas.

When Diggs is healthy, he is electric. Pro Football Reference has him at 18 interceptions in only four seasons, and that includes the crazy 2021 season, when he led the league with 11. That kind of ball-hawk ability is special. The problem has been staying on the field. Between the ACL tear and the latest surgery, it feels like every time he gets going, something sets him back.

For me, Diggs has always been one of the most frustrating but exciting players on the roster. He can flip a game in one snap, but then he might give up a 30-yard gain the next series. PFF’s grades have reflected that up-and-down play, which makes sense because you never quite know which version you will get. I personally think that is just who he is. You live with the gamble because the reward is worth it.

Next Gen Stats back up the impact he makes. In his last full season, quarterbacks throwing at him had a passer rating under 90. He also forced receivers into tighter windows than most corners. That is not shutdown coverage, but enough to make offenses uncomfortable.

DallasCowboys.com has talked a lot about how his presence changes the defense. I agree with that. When Diggs is in the lineup, quarterbacks hesitate. That extra beat gives Micah Parsons and the pass rush time to create chaos. It has a ripple effect that makes the whole unit better.

So what do I expect this year? Honestly, more of the same roller coaster. There will be moments where fans are pulling their hair out and moments where he saves the game. As long as he stays healthy, I think the highs outweigh the lows, and that is exactly the kind of spark Dallas needs.
