Tyler Booker Turning Heads in Preseason Debut

After 11 years in Dallas, Zack Martin retired this offseason. Martin was always top 5 at his position in the league – so consistently great that I’d bet my life he’ll be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Martin also took the Cowboys’ 2022 first-round pick, Tyler Smith, under his wing, training him to become arguably the best guard in the league today.

In the last 4 years, Dallas has spent three first-round picks on offensive linemen (coincidentally, all with the first name Tyler). They used this strategy about 10-15 years ago, which ended up creating some incredible offensive lines during the 2010s. However, this year’s rookie, Tyler Booker, has had the quickest spotlight shone on him.

In the second preseason game, in which Dallas was crushed by Baltimore 31-13, Booker got some serious playing time: 28 total snaps, 15 of which were pass blocking and 0 (!!!) pressures allowed (according to PFF).

Now, of course, it is the preseason, meaning Baltimore’s best guys weren’t all out there playing. However, the Ravens’ defense is one of the best in the league; their backup guys are still good.

Former NFL offensive lineman and one of my favorite analysts on TV, NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger, posted a film breakdown on X of Booker’s highlights – a minute-long clip I’d recommend checking out.

In the clip, Baldinger notes Booker’s run blocking and pass blocking, which both very clearly pass the eye test for his first look in NFL action. As a guard, Booker led the charge on any inside runs to his side, in which we saw a few 5-7 yard gains.

In a division where Dallas plays some of the best defensive lines in the entire league, in the Eagles and Giants, we need this offensive line to be as bolstered as possible.

I believe in Tyler Booker. Go Cowboys!
