Dak Prescott Deserves NFL MVP If He Leads Cowboys to Playoffs

If the Cowboys win out and make the playoffs, Dak deserves to be in the MVP conversation. As a Cowboys fan, I honestly think he should win it.

Think about how people have talked about this season. Early on, every national show focused on the usual names like Mahomes, Lamar, or whoever was hot that week. When Dak came up, it was always with a qualifier: “Yeah, he is playing well, but the Cowboys are not good enough.” That was the criticism—not his stats or his play, just the team record.

Meanwhile, Dak’s stats have been among the best in the league all year—yards, touchdowns, efficiency, everything.

People overlook how “team success” is always used against Dak, not for him. If the Cowboys struggle, it’s “Dak can’t win the big one.” If the defense falls apart, it still turns into a Dak discussion. Even when special teams mess up, Dak gets the blame. But if he pulls this team into the playoffs by keeping their season alive, that’s what being valuable really means.

The early-season argument that “you can’t give MVP to a guy whose team might miss the playoffs” goes away if they finish strong.

It’s not just about stats; that’s real value. Think about where this team would be without Dak this year. How many wins would they have? How many games would even be close? You can put a lot of quarterbacks on stacked teams, and they’ll be fine. But if you take Dak off this Cowboys team, things would get ugly fast.

Voters also love a good story, and Dak’s story this year is pretty simple:

  • He was left out of the early MVP talk, even though his numbers were elite.

  • He’s coming back from injury and playing the best football of his career.

  • He’s responded by playing great down the stretch and leading Dallas into the postseason.

I’m not just being biased here. I actually think Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford deserve consideration, too, and you can make real cases for them. Do I currently have an active future bet on Dak to win MVP at +3000? Yes, so maybe I am a little biased, but the case is still strong. If Dak leads this Cowboys team to the playoffs after how the season started, that should matter most.

If that happens, you can’t keep using the “team success” excuse. The numbers are there. The story is there. The big moments are there. If they win out and make the playoffs, Dak doesn’t just deserve a few MVP votes.

At that point, you have to admit it, he’s the league MVP.
