There’s Only Hope Left in the Carolinas Heading Into Week 2
After getting dominated in the season opener by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Panthers are coming into Week 2 with hope that they can turn things around. From the defense to offense, there’s still so much work to be done to become a more complete team.
Bryce Young played horribly. He couldn’t read the defenses in time, set up the offense while calling the plays simultaneously, which caused late snaps and even snaps that almost went over Young’s head. Like the leader he is, Bryce took accountability for the way he played by saying, “I have to be better,” as he addressed his performance. All is not lost, however. There were flashes of positives during week one’s loss.
Even in the loss, Tetairoa McMillian showed why he is ready for NFL football. His incredible route running and catches were pure magic in his debut with the Panthers. He was targeted nine times, five receptions, and gained 68 yards in the loss to the Jags, and he kept everyone on their toes if he burst in for the touchdown.
The season is still young, so no need to panic for a trade or lose faith in the young receiving core of McMillian, Xavier Legette, Hunter Renfrow, or even Bryce Tremayne. During the post-game interview with the media, head coach Dave Canales preached that week one was a lesson for everyone and “we have to grow from this,” as they head into the second game of the 2025 season.
The Panthers will be on the road yet again, heading to Arizona to go head-to-head with the Cardinals, who just finished taking care of the New Orleans Saints 20-13 this past Sunday. Kyler Murray played a very clean game against New Orleans, missing only eight passes from his 21/29 completions with 163 passing yards to show for it.
Prediction
Carolina’s offense has to step up in the second game to avoid being 0-2 for the season. The key to the game will be getting on the board as quickly as possible, whether through the air or rushing the ball with Chubba Hubbard. The big game will occur in State Farm Stadium this Sunday at 4:05 pm EST.
