Is It Time For Travis Hunter To Pick One Position So He Can Make A Bigger Impact?

Travis Hunter had an elite college career, with some calling him the most dynamic collegiate player of all time. But the NFL is different, and it may be time for Hunter to pick a side.

Hunter was the second overall pick in this year’s draft, and his selection had Jacksonville Jaguars fans filled with excitement. Although we’ve seen flashes from the rookie, he could be utilized much better. If he focuses on one position, he can dedicate his practice time to mastering it, and opposing teams will feel his impact more.

It seems many fans want him to stay on the offensive side at wide receiver, and his long third-down conversion against the Houston Texans has added to that hype. He showed explosiveness, shiftiness, and elite cutting ability on that play alone. With that said, I think it’s time for him to make the switch and stay on the defensive side. I believe he is a much more polished cornerback than a wide receiver.

I know many fans and analysts might disagree with my statement, but I am not saying he is bad at wide receiver because he is good. If you study his film at the position, he stutters too much, and it has not been as effective in creating separation as it was in college. Hunter is not a big receiver, so creating separation is the most essential part of his game. When you watch him at cornerback, he looks much more natural and relaxed. He does not seem to be thinking about his next step or movement; it just flows.

Hunter is still just a rookie with a long and hopeful career ahead of him, so he has time to improve at the wide receiver position. But at the end of the day, I do not believe consistently playing both sides of the ball is sustainable or manageable. I believe he will be an elite game-changer on the defensive side of the ball, where his skills, playmaking ability, and most importantly, his energy on the field can shine.

I think the quicker they decide to keep him on one side of the ball, the greater his impact will be felt by opposing teams. I personally believe that side should be defense. What do you all think?
