Wild Card Madness Sets Broncos Up to Host Bills at Mile High in Divisional Round Showdown
Wild Card Weekend opened up with a bang! Four of the five games played so far have been decided by one score, including three upsets.
The “small market” Jags were upset at home, and Justin “If-Man” Herbert’s Chargers were only able to put up a measly three points in their road loss to the New England Patriots. The results of Sunday’s slate make the Buffalo Bills the lowest remaining seed in the AFC, which means they now have the misfortune of flying west to face the No. 1-seed Broncos in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs.
Good Riddance
Hate-watching in the playoffs just hits different.
After lacking the ability to comprehend a Sean Payton compliment and taking it as an insult, Jaguars fans and players turned the “small market” label into their rallying call. Players and coaches repeatedly brought up the comment in the media and even printed it on gear and t-shirts.
Unfortunately for them, the clock struck midnight on Trevor Lawrence as he returned to pumpkin form, throwing two interceptions, including one on the final drive to seal the Bills’ victory.
On the bright side, they won their Week 16 Super Bowl against the Broncos. I’m sure they will hang their banner in their mostly empty rafters after the Broncos go on to win the actual Super Bowl.
Hate-watching the Chargers is more of a naturally occurring event for Broncos Country, considering they’re division rivals, but boy, was it sweet. After losing to the Broncos in Week 18, Chargers safety Tony Jefferson walked off the field saying, “I don’t care. I have no respect for them. Broncos suck!” That comment, along with the never-ending trash talk online, the Broncos-Chargers rivalry has been boiling. While a third meeting would’ve been fun, the Chargers couldn’t pull off the upset in New England as Justin Herbert remains winless in the postseason.
It’s now official: Bo Nix has made it further in the playoffs as a second-year player than Herbert ever has in his entire seven-year career.
Broncos Country, prepare yourselves for another offseason full of “what-ifs” and hypotheticals from Bolt fans and their ringless franchise.
Josh Allen and the Bills, No Laughing Matter
All joking aside, the Buffalo Bills appear to be the biggest threat to the Broncos’ Super Bowl aspirations in the AFC. Not only do they have the league’s reigning MVP in Josh Allen at quarterback, but they also feature this season’s rushing leader, running back James Cook.
After losing to them in last season’s Wild Card round, I know the Broncos will certainly have their hearts set on revenge. That being said, they’ll have their hands full with a Bills team that views this as the best chance they’ll have to get to a Super Bowl, considering the other “name brand” quarterbacks like Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson are missing from the postseason.
Keep an eye out for a more in-depth and detailed preview from me later this week.
Until then- Godspeed, Broncos Country!
