Preseason Week 1: Baltimore vs Indianapolis

Football is officially back in Baltimore. The Ravens will open their 2025 preseason at home against the Indianapolis Colts, a matchup that promises a first look at fresh talent, a few returning stars, and early battles for roster spots.

Although the preseason doesn’t count in the standings, it matters to the players who have to fight for a roster spot. This game marks the first chance for rookies like safety Malakai Starks and edge rusher Mike Green to show what they can do in full-speed action. Both have been standouts in camp and are expected to get a good number of snaps on Thursday.

The Colts, led by third-year quarterback Anthony Richardson, bring a balanced mix of youth and experience into this preseason opener. Indianapolis had a strong 2025 draft, adding dynamic tight-end Tyler Warren and edge rusher Desmond Little, both of whom are expected to see meaningful reps early. Look for Little, a pass-rushing specialist, to challenge Baltimore’s second-string offensive line, which gave up 12 sacks over three preseason games last year (PFF).

The offensive line rotation will be a huge focus for Baltimore. Daniel Faalele has established himself as the projected starting right guard, moving from his previous battle for right tackle to a more settled position after a strong 2024 season that earned him Pro Bowl alternate recognition. On the defensive side, Trenton Simpson is looking to bounce back after a challenging 2024 season where he started the first 11 games as Patrick Queen's replacement but was eventually benched for a combination of Malik Harrison and Chris Board. Entering his third season, Simpson says he feels "way more confident" and is in a make-or-break year with the Ravens. According to Next Gen Stats, Simpson posted a 4.43 40-yard dash, making him one of the fastest linebackers in the league.

Another name to watch: Tylan Wallace, who needs to prove he belongs in a crowded wide receiver room. Wallace averaged 13.6 yards per catch in last year’s preseason (Pro Football Reference) and has impressed in early August practices.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium. Whether it’s rookies, roster battles, or just hearing the pads pop again, there’s plenty for Ravens fans to look forward to.
