Giants, Wilson, dreadful in Season-Opening 21-6 Loss to the Commanders

Brian Daboll may have already lost the locker room. Tempers flared between Daboll and Giants star WR Malik Nabers with the offense being totally stagnant from wire-to-wire in a humbling 21-6 defeat to the Commanders on Sunday. The Giants were unable to convert successful drives into touchdowns, fueled by a subpar performance turned in from Giants veteran QB Russell Wilson (17-37, 168 YDS).

Naturally, Russell Wilson, in the twilight of his career, cannot extend plays with his legs in the same fashion he achieved in Seattle. However, the game was lost due to poor scheme and blocking offensively, particularly in plus territory, not because of Wilson's declining speed.

The Giants' defense, as advertised, held 2024 Offensive ROY QB Jayden Daniels primarily in check (19/30, 233 YDS, 1 TD); however, the Giants failed in generating offense to aid their elite defensive front, prompting Malik Nabers to voice apparent frustration against the play-calling and Head Coach Brian Daboll.

The contentious exchange on the sideline indicates more than just boiled-over emotions stemming from a disappointing season-opening effort. It indicates irreparable foundational cracks in the Brian-Daboll Joe Schoen regime. For starters, a second-year NFL player, no matter how skilled, should be teeing off on his head coach in that fashion, indicating clear issues.

Although it's early in the season, it feels as though the 2025 Giants' season is already lost. It could be the Giants' fatigue that many G-Men loyalists (including myself) endure yearly that makes the season feel lost. However, the season was lost when Giants cowardly co-owner John Mara decided the failing duo of Daboll-Schoen deserved another 'prove-it' year in East Rutherford. There's nothing else to 'prove' to Giants fans besides the expedited terminations of Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen.
