Micah Parsons Traded to the Green Bay Packers - Dallas Acquires Star DT And 2 First-Round Picks
Let's get it out of the way - a numbskull runs the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones NEEDS to get out of the GM Position. He single-handedly ruined any shot of us reaching a Super Bowl with our current core.
The Cowboys' front office traded three-time All-Pro defensive end/linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers after completely botching the contract negotiations. Mind you, Jerry Jones was totally at fault for the whole situation.
Lots of parallels here with Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison. One of the best players in the sport, traded as they are reaching their prime! I mean, honestly, what's the point of saving $47 million? Jerry Jones doesn’t spend it, going back a decade plus! And just to rub salt into the wound, to the Packers? The same packers who have beaten us in the playoffs 3 times since 2014? Heartbreakingly and embarrassingly?
On the bright side, the Cowboys get two first-round draft picks and 29-year-old DT Kenny Clark in return for Parsons. Clark is a star at a position of need for Dallas, who we have watched get run all over for years now.
This move is an indication of a rebuild. If done right, we could build the next powerhouse of the NFC. Still, we fans can’t emotionally afford to stay in some sort of Chicago Bulls-esque purgatory, where we sit around, put out mediocre records and rosters, and keep “playing for championships.” In contrast, we clearly can’t keep the talent around. We should cash in our chips now while we can.
I love Dak Prescott and Ceedee Lamb. But they deserve to play in better-run organizations while we figure out what's going on. Their markets will be huge, and if we can trade them for a stockpile of future assets, that’s probably the way to go roster-building-wise. Think of how the Lions did it, or even Oklahoma City in the NBA.
In the meantime, since I’d be shocked if they didn’t wait for the offseason to continue playing musical chairs with the roster, Cowboys Nation better pray that Kenny Clark can hold down the interior, and rookies like Donovan Ezeiruaku and Shavon Revel can play.
We’ll see what this defense looks like a week from today. Expect Dak to bail us out of games more often than not.
It pains me to say it, but Go Cowboys.
