The New York Giants' 2025 Season (So Far), In Movies
Almost a quarter through the 2025 season, the New York Giants sit at 1-3, and even after an exciting upset win, nobody can blame Giants fans for wanting an escape from the bleak news that accompanied it. Here are five movies every Giants fan can watch to mask the pain.
1. The Dart Knight Rises
One week into the Jaxson Dart era, and it’s looking bright so far. The rookie QB didn’t light up the stat sheet, but he did everything necessary to upset the previously undefeated Los Angeles Chargers. Even more importantly, he looked competent and confident in coach Brian Daboll’s system, which can’t be said about Russell Wilson sans-Cowboys defense.
If Dart can continue to build off of his stellar preseason and a strong first game as the starter, the Giants can rest easy knowing that they have their QB of the future for the first time since Eli Manning retired in 2020. The Dart Knight may not be the hero New York deserves, but he’s definitely the one it needs right now, especially after another rendition of a familiar horror movie took place today.
2. The Curse of the WereTurf
Another one bites the dust, and this one hurts, man, it hurts. Malik Nabers today joined a long list of players who had their seasons end playing on the MetLife turf, leaving the game in the first half. In just the last five seasons, the following notable players have been lost for the year while playing a game in New York:
Aaron Rodgers
Nick Bosa
Wan’Dale Robinson
Jaelan Phillips
Sterling Shepard
Nabers is one of the best young receivers in the entire NFL, and losing him makes the Giants’ offense exponentially worse overall, while putting immense pressure on the defense. Speaking of the defense and pressure, let’s move on to movie number three before this gets too depressing.
3. (Pass) Rush Hour
A man with the last name Carter and his partner take on the world? Where have I heard this before? Luckily, unlike James Carter and his partner Lee, Abdul Carter and Brian Burns aren’t alone. The pass rush has been very good despite playing a pretty strong gauntlet of quarterbacks so far (Jayden Daniels, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Dak Prescott).
The Giants’ pass rush group of Burns, Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux can be game-wreckers as the Giants continue through the season, especially if the Giants can grab early leads like they did in week four against the Chargers. Although the pressure rate has been towards the bottom half of the league so far, the Giants' defense is going to be a key going forward, and the edge rushers are a major reason why.
4. The Fast and the Furious: Skattebo Drift
Another way the Giants can take pressure off their rookie QB is to lean on the run game, which has been just below league average (18th) in terms of success rate. Honestly, it could be worse if not for the angry-running, backflipping, hard-headed rookie running back Cam Skattebo. He has been a joy to watch, because even when it’s a four-yard run, it looks like he’s trying to push across the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.
With his battering-ram playstyle, it’s easy to see how he could end up getting hurt, but here’s to hoping Skattebo can keep it up as long as Dom Toretto has been driving with his “family”.
5. G-Men: Daboll’s Last Stand
In just over three seasons, Brian Daboll is 19-35 overall, and many Giants fans are done giving him a pass for making the playoffs in his first season in 2022. To be frank, this is his make-or-break year, and along with GM Joe Schoen, they’re putting all of their chips on the table, starting with Jaxson Dart.
If Dart can channel his inner Phoenix Force, he can save both of their jobs and bring some hope to a Giants fanbase that has been desperate for something to latch on to. If he flames out, the Giants may be looking for a new head coach sooner rather than later. It’s a long season, but so far, Jaxson Dart seems like he may have what it takes to at least buy Daboll another season as the head man of the Giants. Personally, I like them both, so I’m hopeful, but then again, like many of you, I’ve been hurt too many times by this team.
It’s hard to feel bittersweet when your team just had a huge win and your rookie quarterback looks promising, but that’s the reality of being a Giants fan. However, like a certain boxer from that town in Pennsylvania said, “It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward”.
