Tyler Lockett’s NFL Career Comes Full Circle with Titans Signing
Professional athletes often grow up fans of the games they grow up to play. New Tennessee Titans signing Tyler Lockett fits that mold.
After signing for the Titans in May, Lockett revealed that he grew up supporting the team he now gets to play for.
“A lot of people don’t know this, but I actually grew up a Titans fan when I was younger,” Lockett said in a press conference after his signing.
It’s a full-circle moment for Lockett, who is likely nearing the end of his career. Fans may wonder how much he has left in the tank after a decade in Seattle with the Seahawks, but Lockett’s value for the Titans won’t only be measured in receptions and touchdowns.
He is a stable and calming veteran presence in a remarkably young locker room. He is also incredibly consistent and durable. According to ProFootballReference, Lockett has played in at least 15 games in every season of his NFL career.
While he is far from his peak of four straight seasons with over 1000 receiving yards between 2019-2022, Lockett still has plenty to offer, especially in short-yardage situations. His small frame and good hands allow him to excel in tight spaces and make tough catches.
This gives Cam Ward yet another weapon to use as he begins his NFL career.
Ward connected with Lockett once in last Saturday’s preseason opener. That one play was critical, though, as it came on third and six. Ward found Lockett for seven yards, keeping the drive alive and setting up Tony Pollard’s touchdown a couple of plays later.
This is what Titans fans can expect from Lockett. He likely won’t light up the box score, but the plays he does make will be at critical moments in the game.
Titans’ fans should love Lockett regardless, as he is one of us, living the dream many of us once had.
