Cam Ward Shines as Titans Dominate Chiefs 26-9

It’s a pre-Christmas miracle. The Tennessee Titans have won two of their last three games. Not only that, but this latest win was achieved in dominant fashion over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sure, Patrick Mahomes was not playing, and the Chiefs had several injuries on both sides of the ball (including losing Gardner Minshew during the game), but the Titans still won convincingly against a team that was in the Super Bowl last year.

Cam Ward had arguably his best game as a pro. He went 21/28 for 228 yards and two touchdowns, with zero turnovers. That’s now only three turnovers in the last eight games for Ward.

The Titans’ offensive line played well again, only allowing two sacks.

Tony Pollard had his third straight game with over 100 rushing yards. Tyjae Spears also had 13 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown.

The Titans have now scored over 20 points in four of their last five games.

Rookie wide receivers Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike had big days, too. Ayomanor had three catches for 58 yards, Dike had three grabs for 40 yards and a score.

While the Titans’ offense shone and deserves praise, the defense deserves a lot of credit, too.

After letting the San Francisco 49ers run (and pass) all over them last week, the Titans clamped down on the Chiefs, keeping them out of the endzone. It’s the first game this season where the Titans have not given up a touchdown.

The Chiefs were forced into playing Chris Oladokun, who had never attempted an NFL pass before this game, so that might have made things easier for the Titans’ D. But they still showed up and showed out. They also neutralized Isiah Pacheco and the Chiefs’ running game.

While the Titans did not force a turnover, they held the Chiefs to just field goals and sacked Oladokun four times.

The Titans were without leading tackler Cedric Gray, but his replacement, James Williams, was the leading tackler in the game.

Fellow backup linebacker Truman Jones, a rookie from Harvard, had 1.5 sacks.

The Titans have young players starring on both sides of the ball. This game was an example of what Titans fans can look forward to in the future. This young core, led by Ward, can do big things in the years to come. This victory was just a small sample size of what’s to come.
