Colts Seek out Another Week at the Top Against Titans

The Indianapolis Colts had yet another week of proving the odds wrong when they took the road to L.A. to beat the Los Angeles Chargers, with a finishing score of 38-24. Not only is it Jonathan Taylor’s 3rd week in a row of scoring three touchdowns, but it is also the fifth game that the Colts have scored over 30 points. Taylor also already has more receptions this season than he did last season in total. On top of that, Daniel Jones threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns. This season has ultimately been a testament to Shane Steichen's coaching.

Still holding on tight to their spot at number 1 in the AFC as they head into Week 8, the Colts are coming back home to Lucas Oil with the same momentum they had at Sofi Stadium.

This week, they will face the Tennessee Titans for the second time this season. The Titans head into Week 8 with a record of 1-6... ouch. Naturally, the Colts are heavily favorited to win and are listed as 14.5-point favorites.

The last time we saw the Colts vs the Titans, which was in Week 3, the Colts achieved over double the number of points the Titans scored, and I can see that happening again with even higher numbers this week.

In case a little refresher is needed of the last time the Colts and Titans faced each other, the Colts finished that game with Taylor rushing for 102 yards and adding 3 touchdowns, Jones throwing for 228 yards and adding a touchdown, and blocking a 62-yard field goal. If you could not tell already, Titans fans are most likely not looking forward to this week’s game.

Now, this week, the Colts just need to continue doing what they have been doing this whole season. Just the same old same old.

Keys to the Game

1. Control the Run

What we have seen from Jonathan Taylor this season is better than any Colts fan could have imagined. He absolutely dominates the ground game. To keep rankings up and ensure another easy win against the Titans, Taylor must keep on controlling the game.

2. Force turnovers

The Titans offense has been struggling this year, so forcing as many turnovers as possible and taking advantage of their mistakes is key. The Colts defense needs to be on the same level as the offense, creating big plays and controlling the field.

3. Protect Daniel Jones

Every opponent knows that Daniel Jones is the Colts’ money maker this season. He is not nicknamed Danny Dimes for nothing! Because of that, the Titans will put pressure on him and try to force him into quick decision making, so the offensive line needs to continue to be strong.

If the Colts can continue to play smart football, I do not see how the Titans could stand a chance. The Titans consistently struggle to score steadily, and their defense has been questionable. With the Colts having a home field advantage, a balanced offense, a steady quarterback, and an impressive running game, how could the game go any other way?

It is not hard to guess that I predict the Colts will win. After a few weeks where scores were cutting a little close for comfort, I hope this week will feel like a cake walk. All they need to do is force turnovers and play defensively, and they will find themselves sailing into week 9 on a 7-1 ranking, still at the top of the AFC.

Prediction

Colts 31, Titans 14
