Denver Broncos Inside Linebacker Alex Singleton Plays Lights Out Despite Testicular Cancer Diagnosis
Following Alex Singleton’s performance against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football, you would’ve never guessed that he had such a dark cloud looming over his head. Despite being diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier in the week, Singleton was able to provide one of his best performances of the season, racking up nine total tackles, with an impressive zero missed tackles. His strength and mental fortitude are incredible. Even after playing an entire game with a torn ACL last season, he found a way to outdo himself- this time by playing two games with freaking CANCER!
Thankfully, the cancer was caught early, allowing for a great prognosis for Singleton and his family. A random drug test after the Cowboys game revealed he had elevated hormone levels that were indicative of testicular cancer. After meeting with his medical team on Monday, the diagnosis was confirmed. Yet, he insisted he played against the Raiders on Thursday night. The very next day, he underwent a successful surgery removing the cancerous tumor, and plans on returning to the field in the coming weeks.
Singleton’s NFL journey has never been easy. After going undrafted, playing in the CFL, battling back from season-ending injuries, he’s now facing cancer and still doing everything in his power to take the field. This man absolutely loves the game of football. His mental toughness is unmatched. He was never supposed to make it this far into his NFL career. If anything, his ceiling should’ve been that of a career special teamer. Instead, he worked his ass off to become a starting inside linebacker on the best defense in pro football. He is an absolute inspiration. The ability of Singleton to compartmentalize his health concerns and still perform at a high level shows why he was voted team captain by his peers.
Since his surgery, Singleton has already spoken with the media and shared on Instagram the importance of early detection and regular screenings, and how they save lives and prevent grief and misery for your loved ones. If you feel something amiss with your health, don’t hesitate to get checked. It could be the best decision of your life.
Broncos Country is lucky to have a player of such high character, passion, and heart representing the orange and blue. Please join me in wishing Alex Singleton a speedy recovery.
Alex, Broncos Country is sending our love and support, and we can’t wait to see you back on the field! 💙🧡
