Broncos Sweep Raiders in 24-17 Victory & Overtake New England for the Top Spot in the AFC Standings
Recap
For the first time in over a month, the Broncos won a game by more than three points. While Las Vegas rallied late to score some garbage time points, cover the spread (a bad beat for the ages), and hit the over, the outcome of the game was never in question.
Denver’s defense gave up its first opening drive touchdown of the season to Brock Bowers on a 15-yard pass from Geno Smith, but responded by holding the Raiders scoreless for the next two quarters. Bo Nix was efficient, completing 31-of-38 passes for 212 yards while also scoring a touchdown on the ground. RJ Harvey totaled 100 all-purpose yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and six receptions. 13 of his rushes (including his touchdown) were against a stacked box, 10 of which went for at least five yards (NextGen Stats). To cap off a full team performance with special teams, Marvin Mims had the play of the game with his 48-yard punt return for a touchdown. I know all of Broncos Country loved how he celebrated his score with a classic Mile High Salute to all the Broncos fans that packed Allegiant Stadium with orange.
Sunday’s game was a great change of pace from the heart-attack-inducing games we’ve witnessed in recent weeks. Unfortunately for the Broncos, they only play the Raiders twice. Now that the season sweep is complete, Broncos Country should research some breathing and relaxation techniques because the remainder of the season is bound to be full of excitement.
What’s Next?
The Broncos handled their business against the Raiders, securing the tie-breaker with the New England Patriots and reclaiming the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Denver now faces a very challenging four-game stretch to end the regular season. Starting with a return to Mile High in a matchup against an NFC powerhouse in the Green Bay Packers, the Broncos have an opportunity to flex their muscle against a worthy adversary. Will Denver hold its own, or will next Sunday be a reality check for the Broncos?
